A Heinz Contest

From Heather Morgan

Heinz ketchup is doing a contest for people who want to make their own commercial for the product. Viewers vote on their favorite commercial and the winner receives $57,000. It’s interesting that such a big company such as Heinz would want to do a contest like this, but it is also interesting that the simple fact of the prize being so large that most likely a great number of people will enter the contest, and thus be thinking about Heinz ketchup before any winner’s commercial actually airs. It is kind of a two-fold brilliant advertising strategy in this way. If you want to view any of the commercials, just search “Heinz ketchup commercial” on youtube.com. My friends also made a commercial which you can watch here:

Obviously their commercial is roughly done, but it tells a story and involves viewers with the product. Other amateur made commercials are less effective because they focus more on the shock factor or rely entirely on comedy, which overshadows the product. Since viewers choose the winner, you be the judge.
